The War of Life

Sir Winston Churchill

These are words that WERE NOT spoken by Sir Winston Churchill about World War Two:-

'It was one of the best periods of my life, the war. All the brutality, death, hate, disagreement...it was so much fun to lead it. I was really sad when it all ended.'

Why didn't he say this? Because NOBODY in their right mind loves war!

But war is the situation we all find ourselves in. Deep down in our souls the battle between what were made to be and what we selfishly want to be rages on. We want to be popular, attractive, happy, rich and have everything we need or want and will stamp on anyone to get there. God has a better plan, put your trust in Him and you will find true happiness and the other stuff often comes along as well. CS Lewis puts it wonderfully,  'Aim at Heaven and you'll get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you'll get neither'.

This battle is what Paul referred to as the 'struggle against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.' (Ephesians 6:12, paraphrased). We want things that bring us pleasure, even if they are only short term, even if they hurt others, but God wants what is truly best for us and for everyone.

Some give in and let the selfish desires reign, and wonder why true happiness eludes them.
Others struggle to figure what is right and what is wrong and which way to go, they do the thing that seems right to them but that doesn't always make it the right thing.

I feel, even as a Christian, that I have been in both of those camps. But there is a third camp I want to be a part of and just felt called towards when spending time with God last night.

This camp is a camp that depends on God for everything. Knowledge, provision, guidance and strength. This camp prays and waits on God.
I think it's amazingly true that whatever the question is, prayer is the answer. Prayer is our biggest weapon in the war of this world. When I feel low, when I feel like I'm losing, when I feel that it's impossible...prayer is where I let God in and He just has this astonishing way of showing you the way out or making a way for you. He never lets us down.

The biggest reason I fail in anything in life is because of a lack of prayer. They say 'Fail to prepare, prepare to fail'. The ultimate preparation for anything is to pray so I have decided to rephrase the quote- Fail to pray, prepare to fail.

One of my favourite proverbs is Proverbs 16:3 which says, 'Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans'.

Give your plans for today, tomorrow and your future to God...your plans to grow closer to Him, your plans to come through the hard times, your plans to be a better person, your very plans themselves and see what He does. He has never let me down when I have turned to Him, just need to work on turning to Him more often.

Too many Christians like myself are losing the spiritual battle, I'm missing out on so much. When I pray my problems seep away, God gives my great advice, encouragement and blessing and I couldn't be more full of joy afterwards. Let's turn this battle around, let's pray like there is a war going on...because there is.

A-Z of Christianity 'K'

KINGDOM

Disney World Castle in Orlando, Florida

As most of you who know me will know I had the privilege of going to Orlando, Florida for New Year just gone. The trip was memorable for many, many reasons and one of those reasons was getting to go to Disney World in Orlando.

Even at the ancient age of 23 it was exciting to go there and I wasn't disappointed, really enjoying the experience of seeing the characters, going on the rides and getting the full Disney experience. We only had the time to visit the Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney as it is such a big 'world'. What struck me is that it is almost like another world (hence the name Disney World I suppose!). My girlfriend calls it 'the happiest place on earth' and she isn't far right in many ways, everything is geared towards making the park that way to visitors.

I was reminded that when we make God King of our lives by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior we become a part of His Kingdom.

The Bible says in Galatians 3:26 that we are all sons of God through Christ Jesus. As a son we have an inheritance which, in Hebrews 9:15, is described as 'eternal'.

If we make Jesus our Lord and Savior we not only inherit eternal life but we have an inheritance in Heaven to look forward too, which is spoken of in 1 Peter 1:3-5...

'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade— kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.'

The choice of choosing to trust God or not is the biggest choice of your life because no other choice has so much depend on it. Don't write God off. He wants to know you, He loves you with a crazy love that led Him to take the sickening punishment our sins deserved. He wants to bless your life beyond your wildest imagination. He wants you to spend eternity with Him. You can look everywhere but you won't find anything more important or amazing than this on earth :)

In the Old Testament it says:-

Deuteronomy 5:29
Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children for ever!

It's impossible to keep all the commands but Jesus has covered us on that one, let's trust God today and see what He does in our lives. I've seen Him do amazing things in my life and others lives and I promise that those who choose to fully trust Him will not be disappointed :)

Join the Kingdom today!

Testimony from a major Scientist.

This is a great testimony I found on a favourite website of mine today of a former Atheist Scientist who has come to believe in Intelligent Design and a Creator God, Professor Frantisek Vyskocil of Charles University in Prague, a worldwide renowned scientist in nuerophysiology. Many wrongly believe that faith and science are not compatible. This proves them wrong.
During his school years, he harbored few doubts about evolutionary theory as a logical explanation of life’s origin and development. At that time, he believed that the universe and all life could be explained by natural laws acting on matter. He was outraged by atrocities committed in the name of religion and considered God to be a human invention and religious activities to be wish-fulfillment with only cultural and historical value. When he was an evolutionist Dr. Vyskočil occasionally wondered why many highly educated people, including Dr. Karel Wenig, Head of Charles University Department of Physiology, believed in God—albeit quietly due to the repression by the Communist regime. Vyskočil’s doubts about evolution began during the time that he was studying neuron synapses:
I was deeply impressed by the amazing complexity of these supposedly simple connections between nerve cells. ‘How,’ I wondered, ‘could synapses and the genetic programs underlying them be products of mere blind chance?’ It really made no sense (Vyskočil 2011).
His doubts about the evolutionary scenario were further strengthened in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) where, in the early 1970s, he listened to a lecture by the famous Russian scientist, Professor Yefim Liberman. Liberman concluded that mutations and selection cannot account for the evolution of new species. One idea discussed at the lecture was the theory that so-called retrovirus RNA occasionally invaded a cell’s DNA transcript, altering the cell genome and furthering evolution. After the talk someone from the Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry asked “then where did these viruses come from?” Professor Liberman took out a Bible and said, “Read the Bible, the creation story in Genesis in particular.” Later, in the Institute lobby, Dr. Vyskočil asked him how serious he was about creationism. He answered
Simple bacteria can divide each 20 minutes and have some 2000 different proteins each containing 20 types of amino acids arranged in chains of say 200 amino acids. To be evolved via beneficial variants by single nucleotide mutations it should take, not 3 x 109 years (the expected time life existed on Earth) but some 1050 years. There is simply not enough time (Vyskočil 2011).
Scientists now know that unrepaired single nucleotide mutations (STMs) are far too rare to serve as a major mechanism for evolution and most are deleterious or near neutral anyway. Dr. Liberman added that DNA is often composed of repetitious sequences in the form of short tandem repeats that mutate a million to 10 million times faster than STMs. Even in this case, most mutations could not play a significant role in evolution because they are chaotic and dangerous, and usually effectively eliminated by the DNA bodyguards—self-repairing mechanisms. The cell’s many proofreading systems catch most all errors, even double stranded DNA breaks. Otherwise, we would probably soon be extinct or, at the very least, would be surrounded by monsters due to the unpredictable nature of such genetic damage.
Liberman concluded that the Bible’s explanation in Genesis made much more sense. This professor’s comments caused Vyskočil to discuss the subject with several colleagues and friends. Vyskočil eventually concluded that “the Bible, though not a science book, actually harmonized with true science.”
One of Vyskočil’s discoveries, made in parallel and independently of Nobel Prize winner B. Katz in 1977, concerned neurotransmitter releases at the neurosynapse. The chemicals stored in the tiny vesicles inside the nerve ending are released like bubbles sparkling from a soda’s surface. Instantaneous multiple release of neurotransmitters during the nerve impulse can activate the next nerve or muscle cell, thus transmitting a signal forward. His research found that, besides this fast release, slow leakage occurs that regulates the development of synapses. After birth the slow release acts like a local hormone to keep mature synapses fit for their nerve transmission functions.
From studying the synapse, Vyskočil was impressed by the complexity of this supposedly simple connection between two nerve cells. He learned the tiny pair of adjacent pre- and postsynaptic membranes are not like two water bags with holes for quanta and leaky patches for non-quantal release as previously assumed. Tremendous complexity and orchestration of sets of activity exist, starting from the synthesis of a transmitter like acetylcholine, which is pumped into the vesicles. Also involved is vesicle priming and docking, electrical opening of calcium channels by nerve spikes, fusion of the vesicle and nerve membranes, ejection of the transmitter, and the transmitter binding to a receptor, causing ionic channel opening and new spike induction.
Despite a century of research on the morphology and function of the synapse, a complete list of all synapse proteins still does not exist. The number of proteins needed to form the synapse structure and function so far exceeds 1,000, which was far more than anyone expected (Grant 2006). Even if so-called co-evolution caused by mutations and selection of thousands of variants caused by these mutations could occur as evolutionists claim, Vyskočil concluded it was inconceivable that the synapse system could have appeared during the 3x109 years of the supposed evolution of the genome.

Vyskočil realized that if he searched for an alternative to his generally unsatisfactory materialistic view of universe and life, he needed to obtain more information about the alternatives. He found there was only one possibility—a supernatural Creator—and realized we cannot measure the supernatural by available scientific instruments. He added
I quickly discarded polytheism, animism, Buddhism, Hinduism and different kinds of spiritualism. In addition I was not ready to accept Allah on the basis of my reading the Quran that appeared in Czech in early 70’s. And what about the Lord of Christendom or the Jewish Adonai? I discussed with several colleagues and friends their faith and religion. One of them was a Roman Catholic physical chemist and another one was a member of local Brethren Church and still another was the son of a Czechoslovak Church bishop (Vyskočil 2011).
He concluded that their faith was based on family or local tradition with little knowledge of the faith source, the Bible. Conversely
quite exceptional was my discussion with a young talented pharmacologist, the son of the former Minister of Education who was known in Academy as a “boy with a Bible.” He guided me and my wife patiently though basic biblical teachings for three years, showed us . . . a method to find unbiblical principles and personally how to “fit best” with God’s demands [1 John 5:3]. We were surprised by . . . the fact that the Bible does not . . . contradict any of the main discoveries made by the natural sciences (Vyskočil 2011).
When asked “Has your change of view hindered your scientific research?” he answered:
Not at all. Every good scientist, regardless of his beliefs, must be as objective as possible. But my faith has changed me. For one thing, instead of being overly self-confident, highly competitive, and unduly proud of my scientific skills, I am now grateful to God for any abilities I may have. Also, instead of unfairly attributing the amazing designs manifest in creation to blind chance, I and not a few other scientists ask ourselves, ‘How did God design this?’ I am grateful for the opportunity to take a very small look inside these tiny miraculous creations, living cells and organs. Instead of exalting an anonymous mother nature I understand the universe, life and mankind as the product of the creative activity of God. Of course, I am aware that He has used and is still using the laws of physics and chemistry . . . and these laws we can study and understand to great extent (Vyskočil 2011).
When asked “How he views the evident similarity among physiological and biochemical systems in such different animals as worms and humans?” he answered from fossils
it is claimed particular species of plants and animals lived for [evolutionists claim] maybe millions of years without any evolutionary changes. This is called punctuated or “frozen” evolution. These species were often extinct and substituted by more or less different species. It is a fact, that some biochemical, cellular and evident morphological similarities can be traced throughout paleontological periods and also nowadays there are identical genes operating in worms, mice and man. This enables laboratory and preclinical tests of many useful medical drugs on laboratory animals or, more humane tests on tissue cultures where cell populations live comfortably in Petri dishes (Vyskočil 2011).
He added that evolutionists incorrectly believe that similarity and progressive complexity of hundreds of biochemical, physiological and morphological systems are proof of evolution. Evolution is driven—according to neo-Darwinism—by variability, gene mutations and natural selection of the most capable offspring, and evolutionists
try to persuade themselves and the public that every gene and resulting protein, every enzyme and metabolic cascade appeared without any “pre-written” program. That they were refined into relative perfection just by the interaction of a variable population with its changed environment and in competition with organisms that are either food or predators for them (Vyskočil 2011).
He added that it is true that many basic life processes “are almost identical in simple ‘low’ and complex ‘high’ multi-cellular organisms. These include photosynthesis in all green plants (in unicellular algae) or oxygen transport and consumption in almost all animals and plants.” This fact does not document evolution but rather the
existence of such general processes and similarities are actually proof of an Intelligent Designer. Engineers can use successful and well-tried details in their new models whereas unneeded parts are either discarded, or they are left in the new model for further application. We have many genes in our cell nuclei that never form any proteins in our bodies. . . . Engineers also realize that sometimes it is more efficient to construct similar, but not identical, parts in parallel in different models (Vyskočil 2011).
An example is the rotator proton pump in the mitochondrial membrane that is used by the Creator in the flagella in microorganisms to allow them to move around, just as the four round wheels of an antique Ford Model T are still used in Formula One racing cars. Similarity, in apes and humans and living systems across groups of animals (e.g., hemoglobin in worms and mammals) and plants is proof that the Creator used similar principles. Every living system requires energy, depends on the photosynthetic synthesis of sugar, and uses this accumulated energy for building and maintaining their bodies in similar ways. Therefore, it is clear why “one mind designing a universe would almost surely have employed one set of basic principles to govern related phenomena” (Kline 1982, p. 52).

When the Waves come in...

I am very happy to announce that my exams for 2011 are now complete!

They went well and I feel the two months hard revision was worth it :)

As you can imagine, having become a bit of a social recluse over the last two months it is a big relief to be able to go out with friends and have free time again with no feeling of obligation to revise or guilt if I don't or am unable to do as much as I think was possible.

What has surprised me though is the feelings of relief and freedom have shown me how stressed I actually have been the last month or so. It scares me a little bit that, without realising, my attitude has been impaired by the weight of determination to do well and pressure to succeed that was on me. I am already praying that God would help me handle it better next time.

But what really pleased me is that I actually didn't notice the stress. It didn't overcome me and, actually, didn't even come close. It's like God lifted me up above the worst of it.

It reminded me of a Parable Jesus told:-

Matthew 7:24-29 : The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

I am blessed because by giving my life to Jesus and trusting in Him my life is built upon the Rock that Jesus is in our lives. He supports us, encourages us and helps us all the way to the amazing things He has given us to do, even when we don't see it or know it.

When the waves such as exam stress comes crashing into my life, Jesus lifts me up above it and I can go on through the storm.

What is your life built on? A rock that can lift you above the biggest of storms or the sand that will take all the punishment helplessly?

Gary Speed

Gary Speed 1969-2011. RIP.
By now everyone in Britain has probably heard the sad news about the Wales Manager Gary Speed's death. Nothing makes this easier to understand or take in, I still don't quite believe it. Speed was a lovely man and was beginning to prove himself as a great manager with the Welsh National Team. My tribute to Speed is that he is the man who helped me believe in our national side again and I only hope we can complete his good work and make the Brazil 2014 World Cup and dedicate it to his memory.

Depression is considered to be the cause by many and although nobody knows what actually happened, you have to be in a pretty awful place to consider taking your life, let alone actually go through with it.

Not many people really know what depression truly is, not even myself. I can say that there have been some very miserable times in my life where I haven't been happy and really struggled to see a good future. I think all of us have been there in our lives. There appears to be a depression that goes beyond this, which is all consuming and very hard to get through. I can't say I have have ever had it that bad. As a Christian, prayer and putting my hope and mind towards Jesus has been a wonderful, incredible help in getting through my hard times. God has promised us a hope and a future (Jer 29:11), that good will come out of all our trials (Romans 8:28) and a glory revealed in us that goes far beyond our present sufferings (Romans 8:18). Best of all, He promises us Salvation and a happy, painless eternity through Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9), (Revelation 21:5). Jesus makes my day everyday and these truths have helped me so much.

This can be very more easily said than done at times. I don't know if you have depression, feel my experiences above are of no help or have come through this similarly yourself but I will post some great quotes from Charles Spurgeon regarding depression which I came across today.

"Before any great achievement, some measure of depression is very usual."

"Fits of depression come over the most of us. Usually cheerful as we may be, we must at intervals be cast down. The strong are not always vigorous, the wise not always ready, the brave not always courageous, and the joyous not always happy."

"I find myself frequently depressed - perhaps more so than any other person here. And I find no better cure for that depression than to trust in the Lord with all my heart, and seek to realize afresh the power of the peace-speaking blood of Jesus, and His infinite love in dying upon the cross to put away all my transgressions."

Lastly I have a wonderful verse to share. A major part of depression in my opinion is Satan's ability to lie to you and bring you down. He wants you to be down because he hates you being joyful and doing the things God wants you to do.

2 Corinthians 12 7:10

7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
9 But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

No matter what your trial, in God YOU CAN OVERCOME!

John 16:33 - I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

A to Z of Christianity : 'D'

The Bible is pretty much all about God's Love for us, manifested through His faithfulness through the ages and most wonderfully seen in the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus.

If anyone was wondering about what Jesus dying for us actually meant, one man sums it up for us. Paul!

Paul persecuted and was involved in the murder of some of the early Christians, most infamously Stephen. But then he changed and become the persecuted. He became the symbolic apostle of the early Church, suffering persecution himself and eventually dying for his new found faith.

What caused Paul to do this? He had money, power and privilege as a Pharisee and he traded it all for persecution for Christ.

The answer is an experience Paul had at DAMASCUS.

Acts 9

Saul's Conversion
1 Meanwhile, Saul* was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest    2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?
5 Who are you, Lord? Saul asked. I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting, he replied.
6 Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.
7 The men travelling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone.
8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing.** So they led him by the hand into Damascus.

*Paul's name used to be Saul
** Paul's eyesight was shortly restored by a man of God

Paul had an amazing experience with Jesus, he knew Jesus was real because Jesus had met him and changed his life. Billions of people have claimed the same change since then. I am one of them and maybe you are too.

Here are some of the stories that have appeared on the blog:-

That's like basically nothing compared to all the amazing things God has done in this world. Not all testimonies are dramatic, but all are precious and amazing testimony to a God who exists are cares for us!

If you haven't a testimony, look to God tonight. I actually promise you won't be disappointed.

So D is for Damascus, a place that represents God's work in a life that seemed immune to it. God can do ANYTHING no matter who you are or where you are at!

A to Z of Christianity : 'A'

So I haven't blogged in some time and am wanting to get back on track so my idea to keep me on track the next month or two is this, Do an A-Z of Christianity! My aim is to hopefully cover a lot of the truth of my faith and encourage readers in it and maybe give new insights as well!

Obviously the first letter of the Alphabet is 'A' so that is what I will begin with :-)

I believe I can actually sum up a lot of the Bible in this letter..like all good preachers (I joke) I have three points!

ADAM - was the first man on the entire Universe. God gave him a wife called Eve and they were the first married couple in history. To begin, them and God walked together on the earth. However this lovely arrangement ended when they decided to disobey the only thing God told them not to do. Like when you put mud in a glass of water, the entire Universe became dirty and imperfect. This was because sin had entered it.

ATONEMENT - Not the 2007 film starring James McAvoy but the answer to the problem Adam introduced to the entire world. Sin has corrupted everything and this sin was separating the world from God. God loves us, He doesn't want to be separated from us and definitely doesn't want our sin to stop us entering Heaven like it otherwise would. So He came Himself to sort the problem. Jesus of Nazareth was God come to remind the world of His Love and desire to know all humankind and pay the price for all sin on the cross. This act of sacrifice atoned for our sin so that we can be in relationship with God again.

ASK - This is how we get that relationship with God. Just ask. Ask that God would come into your life, forgive your sins and help you live the life He has planned for you through the Holy Spirit.

Mark 9:23a - 'Anything is possible for the one who believes'

Britain's 'Broken Society'

Being away in Llanelli for PCY Camp last week (will blog on the incredible things that God did later this week!) meant that I wasn't privy to the News and it was with great shock that I saw a newspaper during the week with pictures and comments about rioting in the country.

This is something I have never seen before and I naively thought that it was a thing of the past.

Despite all the different theories flying around, I agree with David Cameron when he attributed it to a 'broken society' and 'moral collapse'.

Blaming the riots on the economy is foolishness. Everyday necessities were not being stolen, luxury items were. This was down to sheer hate from the groups seeking to cause trouble and sheer greed.

I have seen signs of this for a while now indeed, the breakdown of communities, the highest prisoner numbers ever and the increased signs of depraved behaviour in the country. It is as if evil behaviour has become 'cool' and the normal way to behave in Great Britain.

It is no co-incidence to me that this happens to parallel to decreased influence of the Christian Church in society and the recent attacks on it from militant Athiest groups.

You see, this is the problem...if God doesn't exists then neither can morality.

Without God, it is simply a matter of personal opinion. 'I believe this is wrong' or 'We believe this is wrong'. This doesn't work because not everyone has the same ideals. Does a pedophile believing molesting children is right make it right? Does a society believing that adultery is acceptable make it acceptable? NO IT DOESN'T.

God is perfect and has no evil in Him. He created the world and set down laws for the people to abide by. Not because of a power trip, but because He Loves us and wants us to enjoy our lives. The truth is that sin doesn't help us enjoy our lives, it actually destroys lives.

Because God is so much higher than us, and has authority, it means His Law is the only form of morality we can realistically rely upon.

So when Great Britain decides that it doesn't need God anymore and it's own opinions are more important, it spells TROUBLE.

The only hope for 'Broken Britain' is that the hearts of the people turn to Christ and follow Him. Otherwise, we will just continue in a vicious circle of selfishness, hate and greed.

Deuteronomy 5:29

Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children for ever!

Dreams, Floaty Dreams

Dreams, the minds way of keeping active whilst the rest of us are kaput. Part of one of the greatest speeches in history by Martin Luther King in 1963. Sung about for one of Westlifes many Number One's!

So we all know what I'm talking about when I mention dreams. The fact is that all of us have had dreams and most of us have visions of where we would like to be in the future.

We can have many different types of dreams, sometimes we dream outrageous dreams...our perfect reality and imagine what it would be like for it to come true. Sometimes we dream of the worst happening and dread the possibility, no matter how small, of it happening. I think worst of all is when we take our outrageous dreams and make them more realistic to suit what we think is possible.

This world has many people who have never achieved what they hoped and try to bring down others dreams as a response. Or maybe things have just never worked out for you. Don't ever give up, this could just be the tough trail to happier times. The trees look so beautiful when it is sunny because of all the rain they endured beforehand.

This is what Jesus said:-

Mark 9:23

23 'If you can'? said Jesus. Everything is possible for him who believes.

God made you, He formed you in the womb (Psalm 139:13-14), He has great plans for you (Jer 29:11) and He LOVES you (John 3:16). Jesus, who is God, said we can do ANYTHING if we just trust in Him.

And there is the sticking point for many, trusting in Him.

I know I find it hard, last week I was praying and I felt God telling to stop trying to do things on my own but to be weak and let Him be strong.

We cannot make our wildest dreams happen by our own doing, we need to give them to God and let Him make them happen. Trusting Him.

Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I saw this quote today and really loved it and it fits it nicely with this blog post:-

Steven Furtick: "If the size of your vision isn't intimidating to you, it's probably insulting to God"

So whether your dream is revival, world peace, world justice, a new job, reconciliation or even just
peace...don't give it up...give it to God! He is faithful and will never let you down :)

Testimony from a friend!

I tried to start a Testimony section every week a while ago but it didn't work out. However, I have managed to persuade a few friends & Christian family to kindly give their time to write theirs and here is the first one.

The guy writing this week is one of my closest friends, he is a really friendly, fun and has a strong faith. We share many interests as you can see above, but our biggest shared interest is the impact of Jesus Christ on our lives and here is his testimony which we wrote for his upcoming mission trip to Malawi, but has kindly agreed to let me share on here :)

----------------------

I want to tell you a little bit about my life and how it was I came to call myself a Christian.
I was born into a Christian family and my dad is a pastor of a church. So therefore as a child I was taken to church every week and the idea of attending church was very normal for me. When I was young I assumed this is what everyone did! However, despite being brought up in the faith I had little understanding of what it meant to be a Christian. I didn’t even think about it until I was much older. To me Christianity was about going to church and being friendly to our friends and family. By the age of around 10 I started to think there was no longer any need to go church as I thought I already knew what it was all about. Thankfully my parents wouldn’t let me stay home by myself and I continued going church – albeit reluctantly.

A couple of years later however, my attitude started to change. A friend of mine invited me to a summer Christian camp and this was the week that I started to realise that Christianity wasn’t just about going to church and being friendly (although these are good things) but it primarily about having a relationship with a living and loving God. It was at this camp that I first prayed for this relationship.

My understanding of what Christianity was about had grown that year but I still had so much more to learn. The process of learning about who God is has been a slow one for me but I believe it has changed my life. Although there has never been a sudden change of behaviour or attitude in my life I believe learning about God from the Bible has been the main force behind who I am today. Without God I would have little motivation to want to do right things and I can’t imagine how my life would have been without the Bible and God’s love.

Looking back at my life I can see that my understanding of what Christianity was sometimes quite wrong. For example I remember a friend asking me if I thought I was going to heaven and I replied no. Although I had given my life to Christ and asked for forgiveness I still thought that I had to earn my way to heaven; that I had to do good deeds and appease God. However, as I got older I learnt that we don’t earn our way to God but Jesus died to take away our sins so when we enter into a relationship and ask for forgiveness then we can be 100% sure of our salvation. This process of learning about who God is and what he has done will never end and I know that I still have a lot to learn.

Despite not always understanding the nature of Christianity I have for a long time known one thing: The God who created the universe and all of us loves us more than we can ever imagine. This love is why Jesus came and died so we could have a relationship with God. It is this love that motivates me to come here today and tell you about my life and what God has done, in the hope that you too can experience his great love :)

Such a great song

I have a random mix CD playing in my car at the moment, it's the only CD in my car because the others I have meant to be putting on iTunes but haven't quite finished yet!

It has a song on it which I just think is so true and I think there are people out there who will be blessed by it so here it is... :)

Long time no write!

In the whirlwind of consistently writing the blog, I had never thought that I would go this long without writing but here I am, almost a month after my last post.

My excuse is exams! I thought I could keep writing but all of that revision caught up on me and I went a few days without posting. I then realised that I was probably better off saving the time that it takes to write the blog as I was getting very tired from revising and needed to focus my energy on that more and more as I approached the exams.

So the exams...started off brilliantly, first two exams whizzed through. The third was tough but I expected it and felt positive that I had done enough. Today's one...well the less said about it the better, the topics that were examined hit me for six but I may have done enough to pass although I feel a less confident than the third!

Now they are over I have my social life back and can begin preparing properly for the half marathon in September I have a few thank you's...

First of all to God, these exams were very hard and it is so much easier when you have God because when you doubt your ability, He reminds you that He made you. When you doubt whether it is possible, He reminds you that anything is possible. When you run out of energy and feel you cannot take no more, He gives you strength and asks you to lean on Him.

I have to admit I have been feeling pretty upset about the exam today, I worked quite hard for it and really wanted to do well and it didn't go to plan. But I know that God will comfort me (He has already begun this work to be honest!) and that any failures will only become part of His Greater Plan.

Secondly, to all of my friends and family and Church family who have prayed for me and encouraged me these last few weeks. It is much appreciated and you just don't know how much of an impact God has made. Thank you so much :)

Lastly, to a special friend of mine who knows who she is who has been extra supportive during this period, God did enough to get me through this but He used you especially and I am glad I didn't have to go through it without your support. Thank you amigo-enredado!

I guess the message of this post is to never give up, to give your best because God is right with you and He will make great things happen and will get you through it...pass or fail :)

John 7:37-38
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Encouraging Courage

Thanks to Tim Middleton for sharing this on Facebook today :-)

"Courage is defined by mission, it is to be called to something

To be couragous doesn't mean I am not afraid. I will always look couragous if I draw more upon my Father's resoures than the strength of man.

I would be justified in being fearfull if God was not sufficient for every problem. But He is... so there's no excuse :) "

Congrats!

Congratulations to William & Kate!! It seems like the perfect day and all of God's Blessings for your future.

The best bit for me was the sermon, it summed up the world today...a world full of peril and demand but ignoring the One that can help them in everything.

Here it is in full:-

The Bishop of London's Sermon

29th April 2011
“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” So said St Catherine of Siena whose festival day it is today. Marriage is intended to be a way in which man and woman help each other to become what God meant each one to be, their deepest and truest selves.
Many are full of fear for the future of the prospects of our world but the message of the celebrations in this country and far beyond its shores is the right one – this is a joyful day! It is good that people in every continent are able to share in these celebrations because this is, as every wedding day should be, a day of hope.
In a sense every wedding is a royal wedding with the bride and the groom as king and queen of creation, making a new life together so that life can flow through them into the future.
William and Catherine, you have chosen to be married in the sight of a generous God who so loved the world that he gave himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
And in the Spirit of this generous God, husband and wife are to give themselves to each another.
A spiritual life grows as love finds its centre beyond ourselves. Faithful and committed relationships offer a door into the mystery of spiritual life in which we discover this; the more we give of self, the richer we become in soul; the more we go beyond ourselves in love, the more we become our true selves and our spiritual beauty is more fully revealed. In marriage we are seeking to bring one another into fuller life.
It is of course very hard to wean ourselves away from self-centredness. And people can dream of doing such a thing but the hope should be fulfilled it is necessary a solemn decision that, whatever the difficulties, we are committed to the way of generous love.
You have both made your decision today – “I will” – and by making this new relationship, you have aligned yourselves with what we believe is the way in which life is spiritually evolving, and which will lead to a creative future for the human race.
We stand looking forward to a century which is full of promise and full of peril. Human beings are confronting the question of how to use wisely a power that has been given to us through the discoveries of the last century. We shall not be converted to the promise of the future by more knowledge, but rather by an increase of loving wisdom and reverence, for life, for the earth and for one another.
Marriage should transform, as husband and wife make one another their work of art. It is possible to transform as long as we do not harbour ambitions to reform our partner. There must be no coercion if the Spirit is to flow; each must give the other space and freedom. Chaucer, the London poet, sums it up in a pithy phrase:
“Whan maistrie [mastery] comth, the God of Love anon,
Beteth his wynges, and farewell, he is gon.”
As the reality of God has faded from so many lives in the West, there has been a corresponding inflation of expectations that personal relations alone will supply meaning and happiness in life. This is to load our partner with too great a burden. We are all incomplete: we all need the love which is secure, rather than oppressive, we need mutual forgiveness, to thrive.
As we move towards our partner in love, following the example of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is quickened within us and can increasingly fill our lives with light. This leads to a family life which offers the best conditions in which the next generation can practise and exchange those gifts which can overcome fear and division and incubate the coming world of the Spirit, whose fruits are love and joy and peace.
I pray that all of us present and the many millions watching this ceremony and sharing in your joy today, will do everything in our power to support and uphold you in your new life. And I pray that God will bless you in the way of life that you have chosen, that way which is expressed in the prayer that you have composed together in preparation for this day:
God our Father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage.
In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life and help us to be generous with our time and love and energy.
Strengthened by our union help us to serve and comfort those who suffer. We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.

David Wilkerson

Yesterday the legendary Christian pastor David Wilkerson passed away after a car crash at the age of 79. He is most famously remembered for leading gangster Nicky Cruz to Christ and telling him, when Cruz threatened to kill him before his conversion, that if he cut his body into pieces that every piece would cry out that Jesus loves him and always will.

On the day he died he posted on his blog and I wanted to share all of his post as I think it is wonderful and such a great thing to go out of life on earth saying..

"To believe when all means fail is exceedingly pleasing to God and is most acceptable. Jesus said to Thomas, “You have believed because you have seen, but blessed are those that do believe and have not seen” (John 20:29).
Blessed are those who believe when there is no evidence of an answer to prayer—who trust beyond hope when all means have failed.
Someone has come to the place of hopelessness—the end of hope—the end of all means. A loved one is facing death and doctors give no hope. Death seems inevitable. Hope is gone. The miracle prayed for is not happening.
That is when Satan’s hordes come to attack your mind with fear, anger, overwhelming questions: “Where is your God now? You prayed until you had no tears left. You fasted. You stood on promises. You trusted.”
Blasphemous thoughts will be injected into your mind: “Prayer failed. Faith failed. Don’t quit on God—just do not trust him anymore. It doesn’t pay!”
Even questioning God’s existence will be injected into your mind. These have been the devices of Satan for centuries. Some of the godliest men and women who ever lived were under such demonic attacks.
To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights—and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in your hour of pain.”
Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail—his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world."

Wilkerson is now enjoying his reward in perfect eternity with the Lord :) Let us be inspired by his inspirational faith acted out in his life and rejoice that he was saved :)
