Watch what you say

I was on twitter today and I saw the following tweet by what I assume is a celebrity on the main page of the site:-

'Don't say sorry for anything that made you smile' or something alone those lines!

I really dislike saying like this. I think it is completely out of touch with reality. Some may think I am being silly for blogging about what is, to some people, a throwaway comment but I believe that people truly take encouragement from such comments and go and do whatever you want and it doesn't matter who you hurt in the process.

Sayings like this have helped turn Britain into a temple of selfishness and despair.

Does it mean that Hitler shouldn't have said sorry for his crimes if it made him smile?
Is pedophilia right if it makes them smile?

Of course it isn't.

In today's world it is hard to define morality as there is so many different versions flying about, one opinion against another. My way of looking at it is that, as fellow humans, we cannot impose our opinions on each other because we are equal and does anyone know best?

So the way to define what is right goes back to the start, it goes to a higher power who does know better. It goes down to what God has said.

Jesus (who is God) summed up God's law in this:-

Luke 10:27
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

  1. This is a culture that, sadly, makes idols of celebrities and people actually live their lives by attempting to emulate the people they admire. They remodel themselves in the celebrity image (hence all the young teenage girls who want breast enlargements to be like Jordan etc..). One of the biggest problems of this is that celebrities are often not "solid rocks" on which to build our image, they are too often a physical and spiritual mess.

Also when you make so much money and everyone is telling you how great you are all the time I think it's too easy to get morality distorted. We shouldn't be following the blind and the celebrites are the probably the "blindest" people in our culture.

So I think that you should be writing a blog post about this! I don't think it's silly at all!

The only way to happiness is a solid foundation and that comes only in the form of the unconditional love of God.

Ok, long rant over. Great post.

  2. I totally and utterly agree. These sorts of throw away comments make selfishness 'cool'.

Thanks to this sort of statement responsibility and consideration of others is uncool, whereas to treat people badly or to be blase, is considered cool... then we get annoyed when people do it to us.
